The performance standards for these devices are defined by the IMO. For radios supplied before July 1, 2005, the standard is IMO Resolution A.809(19). For those supplied after that date, the standard is Resolution MSC.149(77). While there are minor differences between these standards, the requirements concerning batteries are identical and detailed in section 12 of the resolutions.
